How to prepare your Quilt for Quilting

  • If you want something oriented a certain way on the front or back – please indicate which edge is the top.
  • Return shipping by USPS Priority Mail will be insured for $200 per quilt.
  • Please do not attach your binding prior to quilting.
  • Please do not baste or pin your quilt.
  • Please check the top for open seams – the quilt will be returned to you at your expense if any repairs need to be made.
  • Please clip all loose threads.
  • Please press your quilt top and also the back.
  • Make sure your backing material is at least 4″ beyond all edges of the quilt.
  • Backing material cannot be a bed sheet.
  • Please remove the material salvages – do not include them in the seam of your backing.  The salvages are a tighter weave than the rest of the fabric and will not let it “give” as the rest of the quilt.
  • Please square up your quilt – an extra charge will be added if we have to square it up.  When putting borders on your quilt – make sure you measure in 3 places to get the correct size of the border.   Measure in the middle of the quilt and then in the middle of each half.   Average the 3 measurements if they are not the same.    By measuring in 3 places – this will help your borders to lay flat and your quilt to be square.  Please make sure the final border is trimmed and square.
  • Please remove all loose threads from the quilt top – they will be hard to remove later if they are quilted down.
  • If you have pets – please make sure everything is free of pet hair.
  • If you have a smoker in your house – please deodorize your quilt before sending it to us.
  • Quilting is done on a first come first done basis.   Pre-registering online reserves your spot in line.
  • If any of these items need to be addressed by Mikala’s Quilting before the quilting can be completed, additional charges will be added.
